Now that I'm no longer in Korea, I'll probably be using this blog instead.

Thailand: Dragon Flower Temple (January 24)

Kuan-Eim กวนอิม is a bodhisattva representing mercy and compassion with whom some have drawn parallels to the Virgin Mary. One of my Thailand goals was to find a statue of her to add to my collection. Taew took us to this temple (Wat Leng Nei Yee วัดเล่งเน่ยยี่) built for her.

People buy gold, then place it on a stone sphere set in the floor.
I think it brought me good luck, or something. Naomi was fascinated.

Here is a statue of Kuan-Eim represented with 11 heads to hear the cries of the suffering and 1000 arms to assist them.

Naomi sits with Taew (Left) and doesn't like being touched by a stranger (Right).

Large room with many buddhas.

Even more buddhas...lining the walls are 10,000 golden statues.

Statues everywhere, but none for sale...only coins.

Afterward, we ate lunch (pad thai for Naomi).

We rode a tuk-tuk, which is not very comfortable for someone who gets motion sick (with the bouncing around and the smell of exhaust), then Amy found lots of fabric for her quilting.

This Kuan-Eim was on the street outside the market, where I finally found one for sale.
