The first stop of my trip was to Gongju. I had to take the subway to Suwon, a train to Daejon, a long walk to the bus terminal, then a bus to Gongju. The city is beautiful and wide-open and the people were quite friendly. It was also very very hot.
Gongju was the 2nd capital city of the Baekje Kingdom.
After arriving, my first stop were the tombs of Songsan-ri. Among them was the tomb of King Muryeong. Below was a recreation of the tomb and what was found inside.
Here are the tombs, which are large grassy hills.
This is the entrance (now sealed) to his real tomb.
Half-jokingly, these older Koreans asked me where the tombs were.
That night, the motel owner suggested this restaurant. I ate samgyeopsal and chatted with the guy eating next to me, Mr. Park, who sells elevators or makes them or something.
The next day I went to Gongsanseong Fortress.
